In a time of regulation the “holy grail” of classic truck junkyards still exists. While many of these junkyards have closed, a handful of these hidden treasures are still operating today, and the trucks inside are waiting to be picked from their eternal resting place. During our travels, the anticipation and excitement to hunt usually trumps our desire for the show and shine. With the popularity of c10s and classic chevy trucks growing daily, it’s becoming more and more difficult to locate these rare gems.
When reproduction parts just don’t make the grade, where is one to go? A classic truck junkyard! Why? Original stamped sheetmetal parts met the strict standards of the manufacture and just better. The sheetmetal is thicker, they fit better and the price is comparable, and in our opinion ad character and soul to your truck. Plus, it’s another great story you can tell your friends.
CLASSIC TRUCK JUNKYARDS
L & L Classic Auto based in Wendell, ID and is 120 acres full of over 8,000 classic automobiles and trucks. What looks like a mirage is actually acres of rolling hills filled with classics as far as the eye can see. Just when you think you’ve seen it all, more vintage steel lies behind the next knoll.
So, what can you expect to find? Everything, just about anyway. With hundreds if not thousands of classic Chevy trucks, the plethora of other models like Hudsons, Jeep’s and International and Fords are in abundance too. It’s true that many of these trucks have been sitting for several decades, but all it really takes is a bit of TLC to bring that classic part back to life. If patina and original is your cup of tea, these junkyard finds are priceless.

If you’re near Austin, we recommend visiting John’s Salvage Company in Sequin, TX. They have roughly 4,550 pre-70 classics and trucks and are only about 60 miles south of Austin.
Located along the Monterey Peninsula in Watsonville is Salsipuedes Auto Wrecking. They have a handful of classic trucks, but are more know for parts. Need a door of tailgate, they got it. Need a steering column, a set of lights or trim? They’ve got that too. If you’re in or around the SF Bay Area it’s worth making the trip.
Last but not least is California Auto Salvage. It’s locate just Monterey Road in Morgan Hill, CA. This is a small classic truck junkyard with lots of parts and a few dozens Chevy and Ford pickups and classic 60’s cars.
