The classic truck world has seen an influx of custom c10 cabs over the last few years, many 4-door cabs in various body styles and even a handful of extended cab pickups. Is it because enthusiasts want something different? Maybe it’s Instagram and the various C10 build accounts driving the need or is it the new truck market? While the real reason for this is uncertain, we believe the culprit may be a combination the new truck market. The price of a half ton truck off the showroom floor can easily exceed $60k, pushing many truck enthusiasts with classic truck roots to rethink their options.
Take Project C30 Crew for instance, in terms of cost, it’s not going to be much different than that of a brand new Chevy, Dodge or Ford 3500 crew cab dually which will cost upwards of $80k depending on the options. While you get a lot at that price point, it’s still a stock truck that gets lost in the parking lot outside your local grocery store. For close to the same amount or a little more, providing you can perform some of the work yourself, these trucks can now be built exactly the way you want. The process of course, takes much longer and can be stressful at times, but the end result will be a wonderful blend of classic styling and modern technology that will perform as good as your buddies new truck, but look way cooler and retain it’s value, unlike that of a new truck.
The popularity of Instagram in the classic truck world is insane. It has become the go-to spot online to watch these trucks being built. People from all over the country are sharing #c10 build photos daily on the social platform. Builders like Rtech Fabrication who specialize in fabricating these trucks, shares many of the custom four-door c10s currently being built at his shop in Idaho.
We scoured the web and social media to find some of the coolest ’47-’72 Chevy trucks with custom cabs as we could. As you may or may not know, 4-door Chevy trucks were not manufactured by GM until the introduction of the “Squarebody” line in 1973. So, all of the pre’72 trucks you’ve seen at events or on the web have been completely custom built. Check out the gallery to view some of our favorites.
